Grave of The Fireflies…..

Hello friends..How are you all ….I hope you are all doing well …

Today I am going to write a review on the animated movie “Grave of The Fireflies”….Usually I don’t write about movies in my blog but after watching this movie I felt I must write a review on it……

Friends this is one of the greatest movie I have ever seen in my life…This movie touched my heart to the very core….I am an emotional type person, sometimes I feel tears coming out of my eyes whenever I see a very emotional scene in a good movie….but I think I never cried so much as I did watching this great movie like I cried most of the time….like I just cried wholeheartedly ….

This movie was released in 1988 and it is based on a True Story….This movie is about two siblings Seita and Setsuku from the city of Cobe in Japan during the time of World War II….

On 21 September 1945, shortly after the end of the World War II a teenage boy, Seita, dies of starvation in a Kobe train station. A janitor sorts through his possessions and finds a candy tin, which he throws into a field. The spirit of Seita’s younger sister, Setsuko, springs from the tin and is joined by Seita’s spirit and a cloud of fireflies. They board a train.

Months earlier, Seita and Setsuko’s house is destroyed in a air raid along with most of Kobe. They escape unharmed, but their mother dies from severe burns. Seita and Setsuko move in with a distant aunt, who convinces Seita to sell his mother’s silk kimonos for rice. Seita retrieves supplies he buried before the bombing and gives everything to his aunt, save for a tin of sakuma drops. As rations shrink and the number of refugees in the house grows, the aunt becomes resentful of the children, saying they do nothing to earn the food she prepares.

Seita and Setsuko leave the aunt’s home and move into an abandoned bomb shelter. They release fireflies into the shelter for light. The next day, Setsuko is horrified to find that the insects have died. She buries them in a grave, asking why they and her mother had to die. As they run out of rice, Seita steals from farmers and loots homes during air raids, for which he is beaten. When Setsuko falls ill, Seita takes her to a doctor, who explains that she is suffering from malnutrition.

Desperate, Seita withdraws all the money in their mother’s bank account. As he leaves the bank, he becomes distraught when he learns that Japan has surrendered. He also learns that his father, a captain in the Japanese Navy is most likely dead, as most of Japan’s navy has been sunk.

Seita returns to the shelter with food, but finds Setsuko hallucinating. Seita hurries to feed her, but she dies as he finishes preparing the food. Seita cremates Setsuko’s body and her stuffed doll in a straw casket. He carries her ashes in the candy tin along with his father’s photograph.

Seita and Setsuko’s deceased spirits arrive at their destination, healthy and happy. Surrounded by fireflies, they rest on a hilltop bench overlooking present-day Kobe.

Friends I never felt any movie as emotionally as I felt watching this great movie…This movie shows us how innocent childs become victims of war with no one to take care of them…..

At the end I will just say go and watch this movie otherwise you are going to miss of one of the greatest movie ever made….Thanks for reading…

10 minutes 38 seconds in this strange world..(Book review)

Hello everyone..I hope you guys are doing well….I am back with another book review….

“10 minutes 38 seconds in this strange world” is a book by a British-Turkish women writer “Elif Shafak”…lets talk about the writer first…She is a mesmerising writer….And she is one of my favourite writer…She also wrote the book “The Forty Rules of Love” about which I already wrote a review….For me she is one of those writer who wants to dissolve barriers, whether of race, religion, nationality, culture, gender…..

After all we are human beings…our heart should be filled with love not hatred…..love should be our religion and we should respect everyone and every religion….

Now lets go straight to our topic….This book is about a sex worker Tequila Leila and her five friends from Istanbul….She was killed and dumped into a dustbin outside a hotel….she was dead but her brain was working….and it worked for 10 minutes 38 seconds after her death…during this minutes and 38 seconds her brain thought of her whole life from when she was born to when she was murdered and later on buried in the grave yard of the companion less ( which is still exist in Istanbul , where those unfortunate ones who has no family and friends or rejected by their family are buried) ….during this 10 minutes 38 seconds she remembered everything from her life…she remembered her mother, her aunt, her father, the birth of her brother , her family life, her school days, her first love…

She remembered how she was sexually molested by her uncle when she was just 6 years old…She remembered the day when she left her home for Istanbul …And from there on how her life changed …

Friends this is one of those book which will urge you to look at the life of people from a different angel and with more compassion towards the people like sex workers, transgenders…..I personally felt tears in my eyes while reading this book…the story touched my heart…..The writer described beautifully…..

Friends I loved this book …and I will rate this book as one of my top favourite…And I think you guys will love this book…Thanks for reading…
